Eugène Gabriel Louis Texier d’Hautefeuille
Born on 15 June 1779 in Caen (Calvados) and died in 1846 in Sèvres (Hauts-de-Seine)
Eugene Texier volunteers in 1808 as Second-Lieutenant in the 5th Dragoons Regiment; he takes part in the campaigns of Spain and Austria in 1809. He returns to Spain in 1810 where he is promoted to Lieutenant in the 2nd Provisional Dragoons Regiment in 1811 then sent back in France as Captain in the 4th Light Horses Lancers Regiment that is in course of organization. He takes part in the campaign of 1812 in Russia, of 1813 in Saxony where he is awarded Knight’s cross of the Legion of Honour and of 1814 in France.
He becomes supernumerary Lieutenant-Colonel on 3 January 1814 and is appointed as Colonel of the 25th Dragoons Regiment on next 6 February to replace Colonel Canavas unable to rejoin his regiment.
After the Restoration, he is put in charge of the reorganization of the 3rd Lancers Regiment and awarded Knight’s cross of the Royal and Military Order of Saint-Louis and Officer’s cross of the Legion of Honour. He becomes supernumerary officer in the 2nd Lancers on 30 November 1814. After the second Restoration, he is appointed as Colonel of the Dragoons of Calvados (1st Dragoons) in 1815. Transferred in the army staff pool in 1819, he is awarded Commander’s cross of the Legion of Honour in 1821. He is appointed Colonel of the Dragoons of Manche (7th Dragoons) in 1822 and leads it during the campaign in Spain in 1823 and earns to be promoted to Brigadier. In 1830, he is in command of the 1st subdivision of the 14th Division in Caen. He is placed in the reserve pool in 1841.
He was also Knight of Malta since 5 September 1789.
