André Raguettly

Born on 11 January 1756 in Flims (Switzerland), died on 10 December 1812 in Vilna (Russia).

Andre Raguettly enters French service in 1774 as Cadet in Salis-Grisons regiment and is discharged in 1792. He returns to service as Captain in the 3rd Helvetic Half-brigade and becomes Major in the same year.

Raguettly is promoted to Brigade-Chief of the 3rd Helvetic Half-brigade on 17 December 1800 and becomes, as his Half-brigade is integrated in it, Colonel of the 1st Swiss Infantry Regiment on 18 July 1805. He serves in the Army of Italy in 1806, in the Army of Naples in 1807-1811 and is awarded Knight’s cross of the Order of the Two Sicilies on 20 May 1808. He joins the Grand Army in 1812 to take part in the Russian campaign and is awarded Knight’s cross of the Legion d’Honneur on 26 June 1812 and Officer’s cross of the Order on 19 November. Taken prisoner at Wilna, he dies there of his injuries.
