Jean-Baptiste Aimable Joseph Delaire
Born on 1st August 1774 in Arras (Pas-de-Calais), died on 25 January 1814 in Fontaines (Saone-et-Loire).
Jean-Baptiste Delaire volunteers in the 9th Volunteers Battalion of Paris in September 1792. He is promoted to Sergeant in the 10th Light Infantry Half-Brigade in January 1794 and admitted in 1795 in the Foot Grenadiers Regiment of National Representation Guard, to become Guard of the Convention then Guard of the Directory, Consular Guard and finally Imperial Guard. He is promoted to Sergeant on 3 January 1800, awarded Knight’s cross of the Legion d’Honneur on 22 May 1804 in reward for his conduct at Marengo and becomes Quartermaster-Second-Lieutenant in February 1807. He campaigns from 1805 to 1809 with the Grand Army, is wounded at Heilsberg and Essling and promoted to Junior-Lieutenant on 20 February 1805 and to Senior-Lieutenant on 5 April 1809. He is transferred as Quartermaster-Captain in the Velites Battalion of Turin on 7 March 1810 and takes part with his battalion in the campaign of 1813 in Saxony. He is awarded Officer’s cross of the Legion d’Honneur on 17 May 1813, is wounded in Leipzig and promoted to Major in command of the Velites Battalion of Florence on 20 November 1813. He is killed in action during the campaign in France.
